Aran Urlacher

What happens when you grow up on an apple farm? You vow to get as far away from said apple farm as possible. At least, that was Aran’s plan. As a kid growing up in Yakima, he worked on his family’s farms learning the ins and outs of the business. It wasn’t until he began working at the USDA in college (studying bugs!) that he learned the science behind farming can actually be pretty cool. He changed his major to Horticultural Science and never looked back. Now Aran uses his degree daily while managing our orchards in the Mattawa area, and he’ll be the first to tell you that he wouldn’t have it any other way.

Off-the-farm hobbies or interests:
Mountain climbing, hiking, camping, snowboarding, hunting, and spending time with my family.

Most shocking/crazy farm moment:
In my younger (and more distracted) years, I wasn’t looking and drove my truck into an irrigation canal. Luckily, my team saw me and rushed to pull me out before there was any damage to my truck or me!

Favorite part of the season:
Spring because it’s when you can really influence the quality of the crop.
