Mike manages the Columbia Reach Orchard, which stretches along the magnificent Columbia River, just south of Wenatchee, Washington. As a farm kid “down the river” in Oregon, he grew up alongside apple and pear trees that his family planted for their fruit stand business in Hood River. This early connection to the land predisposed Mike to having a profound appreciation for Mother Nature. Year after year, Mike has found immense satisfaction in working respectfully with the land to grow healthy, flavorful fruit for families everywhere around the world.
Off-the-farm hobbies or interests:
Woodworking and Corvettes.
Most shocking/crazy farm moment:
When I was 17, I set the parking brake on a tractor that was on a hill with the engine running. I got about three steps away when it took off over the hill. The tractor managed to pick up some pretty good speed before it ran completely over six cherry trees. Let’s just say my dad was not impressed.
Favorite part of the season:
Harvest- it’s my way of showing my team why we work so hard most of the year.
