Our furry friends are part of our family and we want them to eat good food and stay healthy to enjoy life for as long as possible. We also love giving them treats, and we feel better when we can provide wholesome, healthy options.

Because we have orchards full of apples, pears and blueberries we figured we should look for some great ways to include these antioxidant rich fruits in the diet of man’s best friend. It turns out that the same health benefits that apples, pears and blueberries provide us are the same health benefits for our dogs.

First, your pet might love apples, pears and blueberries as-is without them made into treats. For apples and pears be sure to remove the core and seeds. And if your dog is small, be sure to cut the slices into smaller pieces to prevent choking. Many dogs love blueberries too and they make a great treat when frozen, especially on hot summer days.

If you are willing to invest a little time and go the extra mile here are a few snack ideas to make your own homemade pet treats.
